In the 80's Michael revolutionized the way music videos were done and set a new stage through MTV. Singles off his Epic Albums was released with short movies capturing the theme of each song with very creative and expressive visual imagery and dance which to this day is still unsurpassed. The dance routine to "Thriller" and "Beat It" the two most successful of these musical videos are still the most popular in the world today and has resulted in mass flash mob dance tributes to Michael around the globe after his death.

Michael was known as the "Star of records, radio and rock video, a one-man rescue team for the music business, a songwriter who sets the beat for a decade, a dancer with the fanciest feet on the street, a singer who cut across all boundaries of taste style, color and nationality. The moonwalk and robot dance that he made famous with his classic pop hit "Billie Jean" became his signature moves and the moonwalk is still one of the best-known dance techniques in the world.

He became the master of reinvention, his every move making everything that came before totally irrelevant. He dazzled audiences with another complex dance routine that included the "anti-gravity 45 degrees lean" performed during live performances of “Smooth Criminal" one of the hit singles off his Bad album released in 1987. In 1995 Michael and his sister Janet released "Scream" the most expensive music video ever made. The release was in response to the unjust negative backlash Michael had received from the media after being accused of child molestation in 1993. Scream was shot primarily in black and white and gained 11 MTV Video Music Award Nominations, more than any other music video and also won "Best Dance Video", and "Best Choreography". A year later, it won a Grammy for Best Music Video, Short Form and shortly afterwards Guinness World Records listed it as the most expensive music video ever made at a cost of $7 million.
